The Art of Restoration

“Our creative intuition, fused with the work of the Spirit of God, can become the deepest seat of knowledge, from which our making can flow.”

Makoto Fujimura

Bible Art Journaling has a sacred place in my creative practice because it is where I dwell with my Creator, immersed in Divine beauty as I experience healing through creation.

Visually expressing my connection to God, and the way this manifests in my life as my hope, my purpose and my peace, brings a kind of healing I haven’t found anywhere else. I am open to receive a supernatural experience, able to dwell with God in a sense that transcends words, and the miraculous occurs little by little – not so much on the page as within my spirit.

Art that flows from the meditation of my spirit is so resonant with who I am that the outcome becomes secondary and the thing that matters is giving my heart a voice. This is the place where art becomes restorative.

Bible Art as a Practice of Peace

The way I express my relationship with God through art has transitioned over time. As I have become confident in my art supplies and processes, I am more able to lose myself in the expression, rather than thinking so much about the process or the outcome. The practice gradually becomes more about listening to God’s voice as I create, noticing and curating beauty, attending to what I’m feeling, and quietening the noise.

Early on, I was inspired to try Bible Art by the creative team at Illustrated Faith and loved creating on my Bible pages. This style of faith art is so accessible; I can make something meaningful with just a small amount of time, space, and supplies.

However, I discovered my preference is for bringing my faith art into an art journal. I work with visual impairment caused by eye conditions that blur my vision, so the small size of the print on a Bible page bothers me. But more fundamentally, I found the light weight of the paper on even the sturdiest Bible page was limiting my freedom to be more expressive with both the design and the art supplies the page would support. So, whilst I still adore other people’s Bible Art, I have found more pleasure in Bible Art Journaling.

Is Bible Art Journaling for you?

“Whether you succeed or not is irrelevant, there is no such thing. Making your unknown known is the important thing.”

Georgia O’Keeffe

We were born with the ability to be makers; a certain measure of perceived creative ability is not required. If you feel inspired to explore this form of expression as something new, it is as simple as finding a few basic art supplies to become familiar with. Once you have played with them a little, your mind is then more able to let go of process and with time you will naturally find yourself moving toward artistically expressing your spirit.

Beautifully unique and diverse as each of us is, our art will always show up differently as we express our own voice and beliefs. I would love for Whimsy by Nature to inspire you to find freedom to create your truth meaningfully and authentically, in such a way that you are able to experience a connection between mind, body and spirit from a fresh perspective.
