Kylee's Art

Although it was many years ago, I remember the exact moment I discovered my passion for painting.

I was searching for a verse I loved and came across an online image of it illustrated in somebody’s art journal. I had always been creative but hadn’t thought to connect my inner world to art with such beauty and meaning and knew I needed to express myself that way.

Art became my practice of peace.

With no art experience, I just played with pencil and paint on a little desk in the corner of the bedroom for an hour or so each evening after my day at work. I found my happy place in mixed media and it has gradually taken up more space in my heart (and house).

My art practice has now become part of a more holistic approach to self-care and continues to be instrumental in my well-being.

My artistic style reflects my healing pathway.

That’s why I love to make art that feels imperfect, unconfined and kind. I feel most at peace in nature, so am more likely to create from a full heart when elements of the land find their way into my work.

Beautifully weathered and worn.

My art doesn’t want to be neat and new, but to me it brings new life. Using tattered vintage papers, old books and other beautiful found objects seems so fitting, as weathered and worn treasures are brought into the light and appreciated in a new way.

These finds inform my collage and mixed media process of layering paper with paint, ink, charcoal, wax, cloth, and other textural elements. I am always experimenting with mediums, and happily filling up messy journals with notes on the most effective processes.

Being self-taught and unencumbered by expectation has afforded me a level of freedom from the restrictions that can come with artistic rules and affectations. But it has also meant I have had to be innovative and experimental with my learning style and develop my own processes.

I feel my artistic strength is my understanding of, and passion for, colour and has resulted in an obsession to mix paints to find the most beautiful colour palettes.

“Peace is not something you wish for; it's something you make, something you do, something you are, and something you give away.”

John Lennon

My artistic style combines inspiration from nature with nostalgic layers of the past, lush colour and whimsical design. Beyond creation, my greatest influences are my painting peer group friends, where we journey the expression of life and art together.

I believe sharing art comes from a generous heart and my hope is for my art to bring a gentle, joyful, and peaceful energy into its space and to inspire others as they make their own restorative art. Now that I am able to work as an artist full time, I feel inspired to help others find healing in this form of expression as well.

"I don’t believe artistic expression is about the amount of natural talent we were born with. With the right guidance, support and outlook, everyone is able to create art they love."
